Abstract

This study evaluates the current status of the Medical Research Center Library in Zawiya and examines its contribution to serving its user community through an analysis of its building and equipment, human resources, collection development, technical processes, information services, and use of modern technologies. The study adopts the descriptive-analytical approach and a case-study design, drawing on a questionnaire directed to the librarian, field visits, direct observation, and professional literature. Findings indicate that the library holds approximately 20,000 titles, provides lending, reference guidance, photocopying, and current-awareness services, and uses computers in several operations. Its community contribution, however, is constrained by limited funding, the absence of library and information science specialists, insufficient continuous training, outdated furniture, and limited network connectivity. A phased development plan linking collection development, digital transformation, and health-information outreach to local needs is recommended.
