Abstract

This study investigates the integrative and dialectical relationship between art, art education, and cultural heritage, focusing specifically on the vital role played by art as an educational and aesthetic medium in introducing Libyan heritage and consolidating its values within collective consciousness. The research problem stems from observing a decline in the educational role of art due to the absence of a clear vision regarding the concept of heritage in contemporary society, which has led to weak heritage awareness and a scarcity of artistic and design works that genuinely reflect authentic cultural identity and societal beliefs. Employing a descriptive-analytical methodology suited to theoretical and philosophical inquiry, the researcher analyzed key aesthetic, sociological, and pedagogical literature addressing the concepts of art, expressive material, aesthetic form, art education, and cultural identity. The findings reveal that authentic artwork is neither a mere fleeting emotional impulse nor a mechanical imitation of reality; rather, it is a deliberate cognitive and creative process wherein the artist transforms environmental and historical material into an expressive form laden with cultural symbols and educational messages. Furthermore, the study confirms that modern art education—centered on fostering exploration, imagination, creative thinking, and problem-solving—is essential for cultivating cultured artists and discerning audiences capable of appreciating and preserving national heritage against cultural alienation. The study concludes with recommendations emphasizing the expansion of critical and analytical studies concerning traditional and Islamic heritage within technical and artistic education curricula.
